Cancer Pharmacology/Developmental Therapeutics

Program Leader: Leroy F. Liu, Ph.D.

Overall Goals: to unite investigators with broad scientific expertise who share a strong interest in cancer pharmacology, to develop more effective cancer treatments.

Specific Goals:

  • To discover, design and develop new anticancer drugs.
  • To understand the mechanism of resistance to anticancer drugs.
  • To investigate the efficacy of cancer therapeutics in the clinic.
  • Members form three focus groups (drug discovery, drug resistance and cancer therapeutics) and meet separately to strengthen intraprogrammatic interactions. The drug discovery group explores new molecular targets and develops new cancer therapeutics. The drug resistance group focuses on the new mechanism of drug resistance and seeks ways to over come them. The cancer therapeutics group brings fundamental laboratory observations into the realm of preclinical pharmacology and moves new concepts into the clinic.
