Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention Program

Program Leaders:

Chung S. Yang, PhD
A.-N. Tony Kong, PhD

Overall Goals:

To further our understanding of the carcinogenic process and to develop new agents and approaches for cancer prevention.

Specific Aims:

  • To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis.  This includes molecular alterations that lead to cancer formation; environmental and genetic factors that impact carcinogenesis; and cellular and molecular mechanisms that modulate cancer development and progression.
  • To study the efficacy and mechanisms of inhibition of carcinogenesis by dietary and synthetic compounds, individually and in combination.
  • To identify and develop biomarkers and help design translational studies for the prevention of human cancer to be carried out in collaboration with the "Clinical Investigations" Program
