The Analytical Cytometry / Image Analysis Shared Resource provides investigators with rapid and precise multiparameter analysis of cells, particles, and tissues by flow cytometry/cell sorting, confocal microscopy and in vivo imaging. This resource has been an essential part of CINJ since the center began.  It is located on the Piscataway campus with a satellite in New Brunswick.  The overall purpose of the Analytical Cytometry / Image Analysis Shared Resource is to provide access to expert assistance with various techniques in flow cytometry / cell sorting, image analysis, and confocal microscopy to members of CINJ.

The specific objectives of this shared resource are as follows:

  1. to provide CINJ members with a powerful array of analytical cytometry, cell sorting, and image analysis techniques;
  2. to provide CINJ members with expert consultation in experimental design to optimize data generation; and
  3. to provide CINJ members with expert consultation in data analysis, presentation, and publication.

Laser based cytometry provides a high intensity light source for efficient and broad range illumination of fluorescent probes. The instruments are linked to computer workstations for rapid data analysis.  Typically, investigators, their students, and/or technicians work with technical experts in the shared resource to analyze samples and the resultant data, thereby gaining first-hand experience in data acquisition and analysis.  The staff also works closely with investigators to design experiments and protocols for optimal utilization of the facility.  A variety of different services are currently available. Experimental protocols are available for each of these techniques to guide investigators.  New methods are routinely being established and tested.
