The shared resource represents an expansion of the original Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) facility. This facility was established in 1985 with funds from the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology and RWJMS. The specific objectives of this shared resource are to:
The DNA Sequencing Core Facility runs two, state-of-the-art, automated 16-capillary electrophoresis ABI 3100 DNA sequencers. The DNA Facility also has all of the equipment and software necessary for Loss of Heterozygosity and Microsatellite Instability (LOH and MIN) fragment analysis and Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) studies. In addition, the DNA Core Facility operates an ABI 7900HT Real-Time PCR system. The DNA Sequencing Shared Resource provides high quality DNA services for members of CINJ, thus freeing them to focus on the application of these technologies in their research. By serving as a centralized location to order synthetic oligonucleotides, CINJ members can apply DNA sequencing, polymerase chain reactions, site-directed mutagenesis, hybridization, and structural analyses to their studies at a significant cost discount over what individual laboratories could obtain. The technical support provided by the staff for designing experiments and assay conditions as well as specialty oligonucleotides greatly speeds the application of these methods to cancer research. This service is especially useful to investigators beginning to use new techniques. Fees and additional information about this resource can be found at: http://www2.umdnj.edu/dnalbweb |
